Black History Month is an annual event that originated in the United States. It is also known as African-American History Month. Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States and Canada, but more recently it has been celebrated in Ireland, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. October is usually the month it is celebrated in (February in the US and Canada).
Before Black History Month was created, people in the United States celebrated Negro History Week on the second week of February. The reason why they chose this date was that Abraham Lincoln’s birthday is during this week.
